People aged 18 and older have the passive right to vote for the municipal council of the municipality where they are residents. Every four years, municipal councils are renewed as a result of periodic council elections. After being elected, you are immediately 100% a council member. "A bit of a council member" doesn't exist.

In and around the council chamber, numerous words, terms and concepts are used. From every council member, it is tacitly expected that they know how to use and place this jargon. In this book, the most commonly used words, terms and concepts are explained, clarified and illustrated in alphabetical order, each with an italicized "attention" note. It is written from the perspective of the (beginning) council member. But actually, it's a guide for every council member who wants to perform their democratically legitimized work as optimally as possible.
