What does a Business Analyst?

(Business Analyst) In the role of Senior Business Analyst, you work in a dynamic environment where technology and innovation go hand in hand. Your daily activities consist of analyzing complex business processes within various departments of the organization. This means that you work closely with stakeholders to map out their wishes and needs. You can count on a variety of tasks, from conducting in-depth analyses of current processes to identifying improvement opportunities and formulating detailed IT requirements for new solutions. You work in a results-oriented setting, where collaboration and knowledge sharing are central. You will work with a motivated team of professionals who all pursue the same goal: optimizing business operations through smart technological solutions. This makes the role not only interesting, but also challenging. You are the link between the business and the IT department, which requires excellent communication skills and a deep understanding of both business strategies and technical possibilities. The impact of your role is significant: by implementing improvements in processes and systems, you help the organization work more efficiently, save costs and increase customer satisfaction. However, this responsibility also brings challenges. You must regularly operate under pressure, develop solutions within tight deadlines and overcome any resistance from within the organization. In short, as a Senior Business Analyst you play a crucial role in the technological transformation of the company, where your analyses and proposals form the basis for sustainable growth and success in the future.

Required Education

For the role of Senior Business Analyst, an HBO or WO degree is required, preferably in a field such as business administration, econometrics, information science or technical business administration. If you progress through HAVO/VWO, the Nature & Technology (N&T) profile is most suitable, with strong skills in mathematics and logical reasoning being essential. Additionally, subjects such as economics and English are valuable for this role. For the senior position, in addition to formal education, usually 3-5 years of relevant work experience is expected in business analysis, process optimization or a comparable field.

Required Skills

Career Perspective

As a Business Analyst, you can enter from various backgrounds, such as a role as Junior Consultant, Data Analyst or Process Specialist. With experience, you grow into Senior Business Analyst, Lead Business Analyst or Product Owner roles. Further career steps often lead to Management Consultant, Program Manager or Chief Data Officer positions. The demand for Business Analysts continues to grow strongly due to digitalization and the increasing need for data-driven decision-making in organizations.

AI Impact on the job

AI transforms the role of the Business Analyst by automating tasks such as data collection and analysis. This allows analysts to focus more on strategic insights and decision-making. New skills such as data analysis, machine learning and the interpretation of AI models become crucial. While automation may reduce the number of entry-level positions, opportunities also arise for specialized analysts who can effectively deploy AI tools. The outlook is that demand for highly qualified analysts will increase, despite cases of decline in routine functions.
