(Camera Man of Vrouw TV/Film) As a cameraman or camerawoman, you operate professional camera equipment for television and film productions. You work closely with the director and director of photography to capture the right images according to the script and artistic vision. During shoots, you ensure stable, sharp images and follow moving objects using various camera techniques such as panning, tilting and tracking shots. You adjust camera settings for different lighting conditions and work together with the sound and lighting team to achieve technically perfect recordings.
You often start as an assistant cameraman or camera trainee where you learn the basic skills and gain experience with different camera systems. Then you progress to cameraman for smaller productions such as commercials or corporate videos. With more experience, you can advance to second cameraman on larger television or film productions. Eventually, you can become first cameraman or even director of photography, where you carry full visual responsibility for a production.
AI technology is changing your work through improved automatic focus systems and image stabilization that help you achieve technically perfect recordings. Smart cameras can now automatically track moving objects, which supports your work with complex shots. At the same time, new possibilities arise with virtual reality recordings and AI-controlled camera movements for specific effects. However, your role remains crucial for the creative interpretation of scenes and making artistic choices that AI cannot replace.
