(Docent Muziek, Beeldende Vorming) As a music and visual arts teacher, you develop and deliver creative lessons to students in secondary education. You provide music lessons where you teach instrumental skills, music theory and music history, and also teach visual arts with focus on drawing, painting, design and art history. You stimulate the creative development of students, organize school concerts and exhibitions, and collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects. Additionally, you guide students with their practical assignments and assess their artistic development according to established curricula.
You often start as a beginning teacher or substitute after your teaching education, gaining experience with different year groups. You then grow into an experienced teacher with your own classes and project responsibilities. Career advancement is possible to arts subjects coordinator, where you develop curriculum and mentor colleagues. Eventually you can progress to head of creative arts department or school leader, or specialize in arts education consultancy for educational institutions.
AI tools support you in creating digital artworks and composing music, offering new possibilities for creative lessons. Automated assessment systems can help you evaluate technical aspects of student work, although artistic assessment requires human expertise. You use AI for developing personalized learning paths and generating inspiration material. The core of your work - stimulating creativity and artistic expression - remains essentially human and is enhanced by technological possibilities.
