What does a Haptonomist?

(Haptonoom) As a haptonoom, you work with people who want to improve their wellbeing through touch and movement. You apply haptonomic principles to help clients with physical and emotional complaints, such as stress, anxiety, grief processing, or relationship problems. In your practice, you conduct individual treatment sessions where you improve clients' self-regulation through targeted touch and awareness of body sensation. You work closely with other healthcare providers such as physiotherapists, psychologists, and general practitioners to ensure an integrated approach.

Required Skills

Career Perspective

As a haptonoom, you often start as an independent therapist or work in a multidisciplinary care team. You can advance to senior haptonoom in a large practice, team leader in a healthcare institution, or expand your own practice with multiple therapists. Many haptonomists further specialize in pregnancy guidance, trauma processing, or child haptonomy. The field is steadily growing due to increasing attention for holistic care and preventive healthcare.

AI Impact on the job

AI has limited influence on your core activities because haptonomy is based on human touch and intuition. However, AI can support you with administrative tasks such as scheduling and record keeping. Digital tools help with monitoring progress and maintaining treatment histories. You can use apps for relaxation exercises that clients can do at home, but therapeutic touch and personal connection remain entirely human work.
