Fun workshops with friends
๐ฅ You know your friends inside and out. You've already had countless coffees together, experienced pub nights, and taken walks. But sometimes you want something different. Something creative, active, or delicious. Doing something together that you've never tried before, or something simple that you can really take time for again.
๐จ Workshops are perfect for that. You learn something new, don't have to organize anything big, and at the end of the day you have not only memories, but often something tangible (or edible) too. Here are ten original ideas for a fun afternoon or evening with friends.
1. Making ceramics
๐ You might think of dusty studios or complicated techniques when it comes to ceramics, but the opposite is true. Pottery or clay workshops are actually very accessible. You start with a lump of clay, your hands get dirty, and before you know it you're completely zen shaping something that looks like a little vase. Or a blob. Everything is good.
๐ถ Messing around together at a pottery wheel, fooling around a bit with molds, and meanwhile talking about everything and nothing - it's surprisingly calming. And the beautiful thing? You can usually glaze your work and pick it up later.
๐บ๏ธ Tip: in cities like Amsterdam, Arnhem and Den Bosch you'll find nice studios where you can also participate one-time.
2. Making pasta
๐ Eating together is always good. But cooking together, even making the pasta yourself, that's even better. In a pasta workshop you learn the fine art of kneading, rolling and cutting dough. And as a bonus you often also learn to make sauces that you don't get from a jar.
๐ฎ๐น The best part? Afterwards you sit together at the table to eat everything. Think: Italian atmosphere, a glass of wine, and lots of laughter about who made the most failed ravioli.
3. Making jewelry
๐ With beads, wire, leather or even silver, there are all kinds of ways to make your own jewelry. And the nice thing: you don't need a steady hand or design education for it. Just do what feels good, combine colors and experiment.
๐งต During such a workshop it's often wonderfully quiet. You sit at the table with your group of friends, soft music is playing, and everyone is nicely focused on their work. Meanwhile the nicest conversations arise. And the most beautiful thing? You have a bracelet or necklace to take home. Or to give to each other as gifts.
4. Sip & paint
๐ท This has become a classic by now: making a painting with a glass of wine (or tea) in hand. Often you choose a theme but you can also just do your own thing. These workshops are perfect if you just want a fun evening. Everyone sits in their own way in the creative process.
5. Barista workshop
โ For the coffee lovers among us: there's little more fun than learning how to brew really good coffee. In a barista workshop you learn everything about beans, brewing methods and milk frothing. And yes, if you succeed you get to practice latte art.
๐ค Tasting different flavors together with friends and discovering which type of coffee suits you creates great conversations. And afterwards? Never again a boring filter coffee when you can make something special at home.
6. Foraging or fermenting
๐ฟ Feel like something totally different? Go into nature with a foraging guide and learn which plants, flowers and herbs you can eat. Or choose a fermentation workshop and make your own kimchi, kombucha or sourdough starter.
๐ฅข These are workshops with a raw edge โ literally. Not everyone likes it, but it always leads to great conversations and surprising insights. And often: a jar of deliciousness to take home with you.
7. DIY candles, soap or bath bombs
๐ฏ๏ธ For the scent, home and atmosphere enthusiasts among us: make your own candle, natural soap or bath bomb. You choose your scent, colors, and ingredients and put together your own products. It's calming, gives an instant wellness feeling and, importantly, you'll still enjoy them at home. Also nice to give as a gift to someone else (or just to yourself).
๐ Sometimes you don't need a big excuse. No birthday or anniversary. Just spending an afternoon or evening doing something fun with friends is reason enough. And who knows: you might discover a new hobby together, share stories you'll repeat for years, or become the new pasta chef of the group.
