Corona? No! Although it does feel like it! Now that the Netherlands is under snow, we're all stuck at home again. Nothing to do? Then take a look at Findmino!
Patriek PaapNetherlands under the snow
1200 flights canceled at Schiphol, the train traffic is at a standstill and traffic jams that are downright scary, the Netherlands is snowed under!
What's going on?
You've probably already noticed it - all of Nederland has transformed into a snow paradise. This brings a lot of trouble with it: frozen tracks and icy roads ensure that you can only reach a few places. Weather forecasts indicate that it will continue for a while longer. That's why you need to make good use of the snow, and we're going to help you stay positive and find activities to do!
Handy tips during this period
Adjust your daily schedule
Accept that not everything will go ahead. Look critically at what really needs to be done and what can wait. Also see if you can do some things from home - working from home or studying from home can also be an option!
Consider alternative transport
If you really need to get somewhere, look into car sharing, taxis or carpooling with someone nearby. Avoid cycling and using a scooter due to the slippery conditions.
Follow local updates
Don't just check national news, but also regional updates. Municipalities and transport companies often communicate by region about gritting, road closures and recovery.
Plan ahead
If you're heading out, take extra time. Rushing is the biggest cause of accidents in this weather.
How can you best enjoy the snow?
But no worries! Although the snow has some negative consequences, it also offers opportunities for fun snow activities! We've listed them all for you:
Get that sled out of the old shed!
Almost everyone still has one somewhere, an old sled. Maybe it's lying somewhere at the back of your garage or shed, stuffed away but now is the perfect time to look for it! Then find a nice slope and recreate that nostalgic feeling by sledding down it.
Take a walk through the duines
Do you live near the coast? Try to make time for a walk through the snow-covered dunes. We don't often see snow like this in Nederland, let alone at the coast! It creates a beautiful sight.
Not as exciting as abroad but just as fun: cross-country skiing
It might not be as exciting as in a mountain area but Nederland also has some beautiful spots and lovely terrains for cross-country skiing. So grab your poles and discover them!
A great and cute date idea: ice skating
This is THE moment to visit an indoor or outdoor ice rink. The snow adds a real winter feeling and it's also a super fun idea to do with your partner. And oh yes, don't forget the hot chocolate or glühwein!
Take a snow walk through the neighborhood
And we end the list with a fairly simple one: put on warm clothing and sturdy shoes and take a walk close to home and enjoy how beautiful your surroundings can be when covered by a white layer.
No desire to brave the cold? In that case there's still plenty to do. How about fun Christmas movies watching? Since this weather feels more like Christmas than Christmas did! Still want to leave the house? How about an escape room? Or learn how bridge works.
Definitely take a look at our entertainment and creative categories for the most fun things to do during these cold days?
P.S.
Working from home can be seen as quite annoying - lots of distractions, little concentration, but you should look at the positive side of it! You actually have a lot more free time because you no longer have commute time. During this time you can rest longer and do something in the snow after work. So enjoy the beautiful views and fun activities while you can, because it'll be over before you know it!
