Students learn about epidemiology, health policy, the role of technology in healthcare, and the influence of lifestyle on health. The program provides a strong foundation in methodology and statistics, which is essential for conducting research within the health sciences. Graduates are well-prepared to tackle important public health challenges and can contribute to the development of innovative solutions within diverse healthcare systems.

Required Education

For admission to WO Health Sciences, you need a VWO diploma or a completed HBO propaedeutic year. The Nature & Health (N&G) profile fits best with this study, but Nature & Technology (N&T) is also suitable due to the exact scientific components. Career Prospects

After completing the Health Sciences study, diverse career opportunities open up in the broad health sector. Graduates find work at hospitals, public health services (GGD), care institutions, research institutes, government institutions, and consultancy firms. Typical positions are policy officer, researcher, prevention project officer, healthcare quality officer, and health advisor. Many graduates work at organizations such as RIVM, care institutions, or provincial and municipal governments where they contribute to health policy and preventive care. Others choose research at universities or research institutes, or start working at health insurers and pharmaceutical companies. Their multidisciplinary background makes them suitable for coordinating roles between different stakeholders in healthcare. Expected Developments The increasing focus on preventive care and the aging population offer good opportunities for health scientists. Digitalization of care and big data analyses create new positions in care technology and health monitoring. Challenges lie in the pressure on healthcare budgets and the necessity for proven effectiveness of interventions. Competition with other HBO and WO programs in the healthcare sector may limit access to certain positions.

Impact of AI on this program

AI is transforming the study field "WO Health Sciences" by integrating data analysis and machine learning into the curriculum. New topics such as health informatics, big data analysis, and telemedicine are becoming increasingly relevant. Students learn not only traditional health concepts, but also how AI tools accelerate diagnoses and personalize treatments. This significantly improves career prospects, with more options in tech-driven roles within healthcare, such as data analyst or AI consultant, leading to greater demand for graduates.
