What will you learn?

(Wiskunde) The Mathematics degree program at university provides students with a strong foundation in mathematical theories, techniques, and applications. This program focuses on both pure and applied mathematics. Throughout the program, students learn complex abstract concepts, problem-solving skills, and analytical thinking, enabling them to develop mathematical models for diverse problems across various sectors. The curriculum includes subjects such as analysis, algebra, statistics, and numerical methods. Students have the opportunity to develop their skills through projects and research. The program prepares graduates for careers in various fields such as science, engineering, and education, as well as emerging fields like data analysis and cryptography. Due to its interdisciplinary approach, graduates are able to apply mathematics in a wide range of practical situations.

Required Education

For the WO Mathematics program, you need a VWO diploma or a completed HBO foundation year. The subject profile Nature & Technology (N&T) is the best fit for this program, but Nature & Health (N&G) is also suitable. You must have completed VWO mathematics B, and mathematics D is strongly recommended for good preparation. If you don't have a VWO diploma, you can also take an entrance exam through the colloquium doctum or the 21+ test.

Career Prospects

## Career Prospects Mathematics After completing the university Mathematics degree, graduates have various career paths available to them. The strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities developed during the program make mathematicians highly sought after in various sectors. Many graduates find their way to the financial sector, where they work as quantitative analysts, risk managers, or actuaries at banks, insurance companies, and pension funds. The ICT sector also offers excellent opportunities, with positions such as data scientist, software developer, or algorithm developer. Additionally, mathematicians are in demand in consultancy, where they analyze and solve complex business problems. Education remains a traditional employer, both in secondary education and in higher education and research. Other interesting sectors include the pharmaceutical industry, logistics, and government agencies where mathematical modeling is essential for policy development. The versatility of the mathematics degree ensures that graduates can specialize in different directions as their careers progress. Expected Developments Increasing digitalization and the growing need for data analysis create new opportunities for mathematicians, especially in artificial intelligence and machine learning. At the same time, automation causes certain traditional calculation functions to disappear, requiring mathematicians to focus on more conceptual and strategic tasks where human creativity remains indispensable.

Impact of AI on this program

AI has a significant impact on the WO Mathematics study program. The content of the program is evolving through the integration of machine learning and data analysis, with new topics such as algorithms and statistical modeling becoming increasingly relevant. Graduates will need not only traditional mathematical skills but also a deep understanding of AI technologies. Career prospects are expanding to sectors such as technology, healthcare, and finance, where mathematicians are crucial for developing AI solutions.
