🤔 Have you been feeling a bit bored lately, or do you feel like something is missing in your free time? Maybe you're ready for something new, for example an activity that stimulates your creativity. We've talked before about whether it's too late for a new hobby and our answer is, and remains, with confidence: NO! The beautiful thing about free time is that you can start learning something new at any moment. In this blog we recommend 5 fun, surprising and especially accessible activities that you can quickly master.
1. Learning video editing
🎥 Video editing offers the possibility to bundle images and memories in a clear and creative way. It's a skill that is often used for personal purposes, such as making a review of a vacation or birthday, but also in professional contexts, for example for presentations or promotions.
📽️ With free programs like CapCut and iMovie you can easily get started. These tools have basic functions for cutting, transitions, music and text. For a quick start, there are many instructional videos available on YouTube, keeping learning clear step by step. As you gain experience, you can explore more complex software like Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
2. Painting or drawing
🎨 Painting and drawing are activities that offer both relaxation and talent development. It requires some practice at first, but it's a process where everyone can make progress. Besides creative pleasure, it also has benefits for fine motor skills and concentration.
🖌️ For a simple start, basic supplies like a sketch book, pencils or watercolor are sufficient. Online platforms, including YouTube and websites with step-by-step instructions, offer lots of free practice material. For those who want to delve deeper into technique, there are (online) courses and books available.
3. Creating digital art
🖥️ With digital art creation you use programs and apps to make creative designs and illustrations. The advantage compared to drawing on paper is that you can easily experiment, adjust and correct. Digital art is often used for posters, illustrations, social media content or personal projects like phone backgrounds.
🖊️ Popular applications that are often used for digital art are Procreate, Canva and Adobe Fresco. For beginners, these programs are relatively user-friendly and equipped with ready-made functions and templates. By following tutorials, you not only learn to work creatively, but also the basics of digital design and visual communication.
4. Puzzling
🧩 Puzzling is an activity that combines relaxation and mental challenge. It is suitable for different target groups and levels, through all the different forms of puzzles. Research shows that puzzling contributes to improving concentration, memory and problem-solving ability.
🧠 There are various forms of puzzles available, such as jigsaw puzzles, sudokus, crosswords and online puzzle apps. The choice can be tailored to personal preference or the desired difficulty level. It is a flexible hobby that can be practiced both individually and in groups.
5. Origami folding
🦢 Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding, where two-dimensional paper is transformed into three-dimensional objects such as flowers, animals or figures. It is an activity that combines precision, patience and creativity. Origami also has a calming effect and can be used for decoration or as a gift.
📜 For beginners, clear instructions are essential. Online platforms such as Origami.me, Pinterest and numerous YouTube videos offer step-by-step explanations. All that is needed is paper; there is also special origami paper in various colors and patterns that makes the end result more attractive.
🌟 And there they were: five activities that could just give your life a bit more color (or inspiration). The nice thing is that you can start today, without needing a lot of supplies or experience right away. Whether you want to do something creative or are looking for a new way to relax, there's sure to be something that suits you. Pick up that brush, open that app or fold that piece of paper. It's really never too late to learn something new.
