(Minister) As a minister, you lead a ministry and are responsible for implementing policy within your portfolio. You develop new legislation, establish policy guidelines and defend these in the House of Representatives and Senate. Additionally, you represent the Netherlands in international negotiations and summits within your area of expertise. You work closely with state secretaries, senior civil servants, other ministers in the council of ministers and maintain contact with civil society organizations, business community and trade unions.
As a minister, you reach the top of the political career ladder, usually after years of experience as a Member of Parliament, state secretary or through a strong background in business, the legal world or academia. From this position you can advance to roles such as prime minister, King's Commissioner, or international roles at the EU or UN. After your ministerial term, top positions in business, advisory roles or professorships often become available. The political landscape remains dynamic, with experienced administrators being highly sought after for leadership positions in both public and private sectors.

Additionally, you receive faster briefings on international developments through AI and can communicate more effectively through automated translation in international contacts. However, your strategic and political judgment remains entirely human work.
