Career Prospects

After completing the WO Political Science degree, various career opportunities open up in the public and private sector. Graduates often find their way to government positions at ministries, provinces, municipalities and water boards, where they work as policy officers, advisors or researchers. International organizations such as the EU, UN and NGOs also offer interesting perspectives for political scientists who want to focus on international cooperation and development. Additionally, there are opportunities in consultancy, journalism, research institutes and political parties. Many graduates choose positions at advisory firms specialized in government advice, or work at think tanks and scientific institutes. The political sector itself also offers opportunities, from parliamentary staff member to campaign manager. The analytical skills and theoretical knowledge developed during the study also make political scientists suitable for positions in the private sector, for example at companies that deal extensively with government policy and regulations. Expected Developments Opportunities arise from increasing complexity of governance and growing need for policy analysis, especially around themes like climate, digitalization and international cooperation. Threats lie in budget cuts in the public sector and increasing competition from other academic backgrounds for similar positions.

Impact of AI on this program

AI will profoundly influence the WO Political Science field by introducing new analytical methods and data processing. Students will learn to work with advanced datasets and AI tools for political analyses, covering topics such as data analysis, algorithmic policy and ethics in AI. This aligns with modern challenges like disinformation and public opinion. Graduates will have more career opportunities in innovation, research and policy advice, where digital skills are becoming increasingly important.
