Career Prospects

As a graduated MBO nurse, you have excellent career prospects in a sector that is in full motion. You can immediately start working in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, home care organizations, or mental health institutions. Typical positions include nurse on departments such as cardiology, neurology, or geriatrics, community nurse in home care, or specialized nurse in areas like the operating room or intensive care. The healthcare sector offers many advancement opportunities. With experience, you can become a team leader, specialize in specific conditions, or continue your education to HBO level for positions such as nurse practitioner. There are also opportunities in occupational health, forensic care, or as a trainer in simulation centers. The job market is very favorable for nurses, often with multiple vacancies per graduate. Expected Developments Opportunities: The aging of the Dutch population creates structurally growing demand for nurses. Technological developments such as e-health and robotics make the work more efficient and attractive. Additionally, new specializations emerge through medical advances and changing care needs. Threats: High work pressure and emotional burden lead to staff turnover. Budget cuts in healthcare can impact working conditions and salaries. Competition for qualified personnel between healthcare institutions is increasing.

Impact of AI on this program

AI plays an increasingly important role in nursing, from smart monitoring systems that track vital functions to AI-supported diagnostics and medication dosing. You learn to work with electronic patient records that use AI to predict risks and optimize care plans. The program prepares you for using robotics in healthcare, such as lifting aids and medication dispensing machines. You also learn how AI can help improve patient safety and deploy healthcare staff more efficiently.
