Career Prospects

As a chemistry graduate, you possess highly sought-after expertise in a versatile job market. The chemical industry offers excellent opportunities as a researcher, process engineer or product developer at companies like DSM, Shell and ASML. Additionally, chemists find work in the pharmaceutical sector, food industry, cosmetics and at research institutes like TNO. The government also values your analytical skills for environmental and safety control. Typical positions include R&D chemist, quality controller, laboratory manager or forensic researcher. You can also advance to management positions or specialize in areas such as nanotechnology or green chemistry. Education also offers prospects as a teacher or researcher at universities. Expected Developments The opportunities for chemists are excellent due to the energy transition, which requires new materials for solar panels, batteries and hydrogen technology. The growing demand for sustainable alternatives and drug development creates additional employment. There are hardly any threats, as chemical knowledge remains fundamental for technological innovations. Automation may affect routine lab work, but actually strengthens the demand for highly educated specialists who can solve complex problems.

Impact of AI on this program

AI plays an increasingly important role in chemistry, especially in predicting molecular properties and designing new substances. You learn to work with machine learning algorithms for drug discovery and materials development. The program integrates computational chemistry and cheminformatics, where you use AI tools for analyzing large datasets and optimizing chemical processes. This prepares you for a job market where AI-driven chemistry research is increasingly central.
