(Leraar Duits) As a German Teacher, you teach the German language and culture to students at secondary schools or students in adult education. You develop lesson programs that cover all language skills - speaking, listening, reading and writing - and apply various teaching methods to motivate students and improve their language level. In addition to providing lessons, you prepare exams, assess tests and reports, and guide students individually in their language development. You work closely with colleagues from the modern foreign languages team, the mentors of your classes and the school management to realize a coherent educational program.
As a German Teacher, you often start as a substitute teacher or beginning teacher at a secondary school or in adult education. With experience, you can grow to become a section leader for modern foreign languages, team coordinator or even deputy director. Many teachers further specialize as subject consultants, school advisors or start working in educational publishing companies. The field offers stable employment, especially because there are shortages of qualified modern foreign language teachers.
AI tools transform your way of teaching by enabling personalized exercises and automatic feedback on language skills. Chatbots help students practice conversations and grammar, while AI systems support you in correcting writing assignments and analyzing student performance. Your role shifts more toward guiding students in their use of these tools and developing critical thinking skills. At the same time, you remain essential for transferring cultural knowledge and motivating students to actively use the German language.
