Career Prospects

Spanish graduates find a broad range of career opportunities in various sectors. Education remains an important employer, where academics work as Spanish teachers in secondary education, MBO or higher education. Additionally, the growing international trade with Spanish-speaking countries offers opportunities in business, where graduates work as translators, interpreters or international account managers. The cultural sector values the in-depth knowledge of Spanish culture and literature, with positions at museums, cultural institutions and publishers. Tourism and travel organizations regularly seek employees with Spanish language skills for travel guidance functions and international contacts. Government institutions, embassies and international organizations also offer opportunities for graduates with their intercultural competencies. Many graduates combine their Spanish expertise with additional specializations such as journalism, communication or international relations, which strengthens their labor market position. Expected Developments Opportunities arise from increasing economic ties with Latin America and the growth of tourism to Spanish-speaking countries. Digitalization creates new possibilities in online education and translation services. Threats include competition from automatic translation software and the general decline in language education due to budget cuts in education.
