(Hersenchirurg) As a neurosurgeon, you perform complex operations on the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system. You treat patients with brain tumors, aneurysms, epilepsy, spinal disorders, and traumatic brain injury using advanced surgical techniques. You work closely with neurologists, anesthesiologists, radiology, and intensive care teams to achieve the best care outcomes. In addition to performing operations, you hold consultations, discuss treatment plans with patients and their families, and contribute to scientific research within neurosurgery.
You start as a general practitioner after your medical studies and then complete neurosurgery training where you gradually gain more responsibility. After your specialization, you begin as a staff neurosurgeon in a hospital where you further specialize in subspecialties such as oncology, vascular neurosurgery, or pediatric neurosurgery. With experience, you can advance to senior consultant, department head, or medical manager. Additionally, you can focus on academic careers as university lecturer or professor, combining teaching with scientific research.
