Career Prospects

After completing the university Accountancy program, graduates have various career paths open to them within the financial sector. Most alumni find work at accounting firms, ranging from the Big Four firms to smaller local practices, where they develop into chartered accountants. Additionally, companies in virtually all sectors offer opportunities as financial controller, internal auditor, or financial analyst. Government institutions, such as the Tax Authority and municipalities, also regularly recruit accountancy graduates. Typical starting positions include junior accountant, assistant controller, and trainee positions within audit teams. With experience, professionals can advance to senior positions such as finance manager, CFO, or partner at an accounting firm. The broad financial knowledge also makes graduates suitable for advisory roles in corporate finance, risk management, and compliance. Expected Developments Opportunities lie in the increasing complexity of financial regulations and the growing demand for transparency in business operations, which supports the need for qualified accountants. Digitalization creates new possibilities in data analysis and forensic accounting. However, threats include the automation of routine accounting tasks and pressure on rates due to increasing competition. Graduates must therefore continue to develop their analytical and advisory skills.

Impact of AI on this program

AI transforms the WO Accountancy study program by automating repetitive tasks such as data analysis and reporting, shifting the focus toward strategic advice and analytical skills. New topics, such as data analysis, machine learning, and ethical questions around AI use, become relevant. Career prospects for graduates improve, with demand for AI skills that distinguish future accountants in an increasingly digital financial world, where they provide not only numbers, but also insights and strategies.
