Career Prospects

After completing the university History program, various career opportunities open up in different sectors. Many graduates find work in education, from history teacher at secondary schools to researcher at universities. The museum and heritage sector also offers interesting opportunities, where historians work as curator, exhibition maker or heritage specialist at museums, archives and cultural institutions. The strong analytical and writing skills developed during the study also make historians suitable for positions in the media, such as journalist, documentary maker or publisher. In addition, graduates find work at government institutions, consultancy firms and non-profit organizations, where their critical thinking ability and research skills are highly valued. Some choose a career in politics, business or start as an independent researcher or writer. Expected Developments Opportunities lie especially in the growing interest in heritage and cultural tourism, digitization of archives and the increasing demand for fact-checking in the media. Threats are mainly found in budget cuts to education and culture, causing traditional employers to offer fewer vacancies. Competition with other humanities also remains a challenge.

Impact of AI on this program

AI has a significant impact on the "WO History" study program. It enables students to analyze large amounts of data, making new topics such as digital historiography and the role of technology in historical processes more relevant. Students also learn how to use AI tools for research, which strengthens their analytical skills. Career prospects now include positions in data analysis and digital archiving, alongside traditional roles in education and research, making graduates more broadly employable.
