What will you learn?

(Commercieel Management) In the AD Commercial Management program, you learn all aspects of sales, marketing, and customer relationship management in practice. You develop skills in market research, product positioning, sales techniques, and building customer relationships. Additionally, you take courses in business economics, communication, digital marketing, and project management. What makes this AD unique compared to a full HBO bachelor's degree is the strong focus on direct application in the workplace within two years, with more practice and less theory. You work on real commercial projects for companies in the region, where you develop market plans, conduct customer analyses, and develop sales strategies. An extensive internship of at least 20 weeks at a commercial organization is an essential part of your education. This program is perfect for you if you want to quickly get started in the commercial sector, enjoy working with people, and are results-oriented. Also, if you want to continue studying from MBO level 4 but don't want to study for four years, this AD offers an ideal stepping stone to HBO level.

Required Education

For admission to the AD Commercial Management program, you need an MBO level 4 diploma, preferably in an economic or commercial field such as Business and Retail, Marketing, or Management Economics and Law. You can also enroll directly with a HAVO diploma, where the Culture and Society (C&M) or Economics and Society (E&M) profile aligns best because you already get acquainted with economics, business economics, and social sciences that are relevant for commercial functions. With a VWO diploma, you can also enroll regardless of your profile. Specifically, the subjects economics and mathematics are useful because you work a lot with numbers, budgets, and analyses in commercial functions. There are no additional admission requirements or entrance exams required. As alternative admission, you can be admitted with an MBO level 3 diploma plus relevant work experience through a suitability assessment that tests your commercial skills and motivation.

Career Prospects

After your AD Commercial Management, you can work as a junior account manager, sales representative, sales employee, marketing assistant, or customer advisor at various companies. You find work in sectors such as retail, wholesale, financial services, technical companies, but also at advertising agencies and media organizations. The starting salary is typically between €2,200 and €2,800 gross per month, depending on the sector and region. With a few years of experience, you can advance to positions such as account manager, sales manager, or marketing coordinator. An important advancement opportunity is pursuing a shortened HBO bachelor's degree, where you often receive exemptions for already completed courses, allowing you to complete your full HBO bachelor's within 1.5 to 2 years.

Impact of AI on this program

AI is changing AD Commercial Management through automation of market analysis, personalization of customer communication, and AI-driven campaign optimization. Students learn to work with AI marketing tools, but human creativity and strategic thinking remain essential for the profession.
