What will you learn?

(Communicatie) In the AD Communication program, you learn to master all aspects of modern communication, from traditional media to digital channels. You develop skills in copywriting, content creation, social media management, visual communication and PR strategies. The program combines theory about communication models and target audience analysis with practical training in graphic programs like Adobe Creative Suite, video-editing tools and content management systems. You learn to develop campaigns, write press releases, prepare interviews and handle crisis communication. What makes this AD unique compared to a full bachelor's degree is the direct focus on executive tasks and practical skills that you can immediately apply in the job market. You work on real assignments for companies and organizations, carry out internship projects at communication agencies, marketing departments or non-profit organizations, and build a professional portfolio. The program is ideal for creative, communicatively strong students who want to quickly enter the job market as an all-round communication professional with hands-on experience.

Required Education

For admission to the AD Communication program, you need at least an MBO level 4 diploma, preferably in a direction such as Marketing, Media & Design, or Administration. You can also enter with a HAVO or VWO diploma, where the Culture & Society (C&M) profile fits best because this profile focuses on language skills, social studies and often art subjects that are relevant for communication and creativity. The Economics & Society (E&M) profile is also very suitable due to subjects like economics and business economics that are important for marketing communication. In secondary school, subjects like Dutch, English, social studies and any art subjects are valuable for your preparation. Some universities of applied sciences require a motivation letter or conduct an intake interview to assess your communication skills and motivation. For 21-plus students without formal prior education, there is often the possibility of admission through an entrance exam that tests your general development and language skills.

Career Prospects

After completing the AD Communication program, you can immediately start working as a communication officer, content creator, social media specialist, or junior account executive at communication agencies, marketing departments of companies, government organizations or non-profit institutions. You can also work as a copywriter, PR assistant, or digital marketing specialist in sectors ranging from retail and technology to healthcare and education. Starting salaries are typically between €2,200 and €2,800 gross per month, depending on the employer and region. With experience, you can grow into functions such as communication advisor, campaign manager or head of communication. For further career development, you can supplement your AD to a full HBO bachelor's in Communication within one year, which opens doors to senior functions and possibly a master's program for leadership positions in the communication industry.

Impact of AI on this program

AI has a growing influence on AD Communication. Routine tasks are being automated, while complex decision-making, creativity and human contact are becoming more important. Knowledge of AI tools and data literacy is a growing competency in this field.
