What will you learn?

(Creative Media Professional) In the AD Creative Media Professional program, you develop broadly applicable skills for the creative media industry. You learn practical work with video and audio production, graphic design, photography, web design and social media strategy. During the program you work with professional software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro and various camera and sound equipment. The curriculum combines technical skills with conceptual thinking and project management. You work on real assignments for companies and organizations, where you learn to develop campaigns, create content and execute multi-media projects from A to Z. Internships at advertising agencies, production houses or marketing departments form an essential part of your education. This two-year AD distinguishes itself from a full HBO bachelor's degree through its direct focus on practical, labor market-oriented skills without extensive theoretical depth. The program is ideal for creative, technically interested students who want to enter the job market quickly and enjoy working with their hands on tangible media outputs.

Required Education

For admission to the AD Creative Media Professional you need at least an MBO-4 diploma, preferably in a related field such as Media, Design or ICT. You can also enter with a HAVO or VWO diploma. The HAVO elective profile Culture & Society (C&M) fits best with this program because this profile combines creativity, communication and social developments - core skills in the media industry. Economics & Society (E&M) is also suitable due to the marketing and business economics aspects of media production. Subjects like Dutch, English and Social Studies are important for communication and content creation. Experience with visual arts, computer science or media is an advantage but not mandatory. Some universities of applied sciences use an intake interview or portfolio assessment where your creativity, motivation and digital skills are tested. Alternative admission is possible through an entrance exam for students without formal prior education but with relevant work experience in the creative sector.

Career Prospects

After completing the AD you can immediately start working as a junior content creator, social media specialist, graphic designer or video editor at marketing agencies, broadcasters, production companies or in-house marketing departments. Other positions include multimedia designer, web designer, photographer assistant or campaign employee. Typical starting salaries range between €2,200 and €2,800 gross per month, depending on the employer and region. You can grow to senior positions such as art director, creative producer or marketing manager, or start your own freelance practice. Progression to a full HBO bachelor's in Communication & Multimedia Design or Media & Entertainment Management is possible, often with exemptions allowing you to complete your bachelor's in one year and gain access to more strategic functions in the creative industry.

Impact of AI on this program

AI is changing AD Creative Media Professional with generative tools for image, sound and editing. The creative vision, storytelling and direction remain human work. Knowledge of AI production tools is becoming a standard skill.
