What will you learn?

(Engineering) In AD Engineering, you develop yourself into a practice-oriented engineer who can solve complex technical problems. You learn to design, calculate, test, and improve technical systems and products. The program combines subjects such as technical mechanics, materials science, CAD drawing, project management, and sustainability technology. You work with modern software like SolidWorks and AutoCAD, and learn programming for technical applications. What makes this AD unique compared to a full bachelor's degree is the quick entry into the job market with directly applicable skills. You carry out practical projects for real clients, such as designing a sustainable energy solution or optimizing production processes. An internship at technical companies is a mandatory part of the second year. This program is perfect for you if you are practically minded, enjoy technical challenges, and want to get started quickly in the technical sector without studying for four years.

Required Education

For admission to AD Engineering, you need at least an MBO-4 diploma in a technical field such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Construction. With a HAVO diploma you are also welcome, where the N&T (Nature and Technology) profile fits best because you have studied physics, mathematics, and often technology there. The E&M (Economics and Society) profile is also possible, but then you must have taken mathematics B. Specific subjects that are important: mathematics (at least level 4), physics, and preferably also chemistry. Some universities of applied sciences require an entrance exam to test your technical insight. Alternative admission is possible through a 21+ test if you don't have a suitable diploma but do have work experience in technology. With VWO you are of course also welcome, although many VWO students choose a full bachelor's degree.

Career Prospects

After your AD Engineering, you can immediately start working as a junior engineer, technical designer, project coordinator, or quality officer at technical companies, engineering firms, production and industrial companies. You work in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, energy, mechanical engineering, or consultancy. Starting salaries range between €2,800 and €3,500 gross per month, depending on the sector and region. Career advancement opportunities are excellent: you can progress to senior engineer, project leader, or even team manager. You can also expand your AD to a full HBO bachelor's degree in Engineering in one year, making higher positions and salary levels achievable.

Impact of AI on this program

AI is transforming AD Engineering with generative design, simulation, and predictive maintenance. Engineers who master AI tools are in high demand. The creative and problem-solving core of the profession remains human.
