What will you learn?

(E-commerce) In the Associate Degree E-commerce, you learn about all aspects of online commerce and digital marketing. You gain practical knowledge of webshop development, online marketing strategies, social media advertising, SEO/SEA, data analysis and customer retention. Additionally, you study logistics, inventory management, payment systems and laws and regulations surrounding e-commerce. What makes this AD unique compared to a full bachelor's degree is the direct focus on practical skills and quick entry into the job market. You work extensively with real cases, real-time data from webshops and current marketing tools. Internships at e-commerce companies, from large retailers to startup webshops, are an essential part of the program. You also carry out projects where you set up a webshop yourself or develop a marketing campaign. This program is perfect for you if you want to quickly enter the growing online commerce world and enjoy the combination of technology, marketing and commerce.

Required Education

For admission to the AD E-commerce, you need an MBO level 4 diploma, preferably in a commercial, economic or ICT direction. You can also enter with a HAVO or VWO diploma. The Economics & Society (E&M) profile fits best, because this gives you a foundation in economics, mathematics and often marketing, which directly connects to e-commerce subjects like financial management and market analysis. Culture & Society (C&M) is also suitable due to its focus on communication and social studies, important for online marketing and customer communication. Subjects like economics, mathematics and English are particularly relevant - mathematics for data analysis and conversion calculations, English because many e-commerce platforms and marketing have international scope. Some universities of applied sciences require a motivation interview or portfolio with, for example, your own online projects. As alternative admission, you can also enter with relevant work experience of at least three years and a 21+ test.

Career Prospects

After the AD E-commerce, you can work as an e-commerce specialist, online marketer, webshop manager, SEA/SEO specialist or social media advertiser. You work at webshops, marketing agencies, retail companies with online channels, or start your own e-commerce business. Starting salaries range between €2,200-€2,800 gross per month, depending on the sector and company size. Growth opportunities are excellent: you can advance to e-commerce manager, digital marketing manager or expand your own online business. You can also progress after this AD to the third year of a full HBO bachelor's in Commercial Economics, Marketing or Digital Business Innovation to further deepen your knowledge and gain access to more strategic management positions.

Impact of AI on this program

AI is changing AD E-commerce through automation of market analysis, personalization of customer communication and AI-driven campaign optimization. Students learn to work with AI marketing tools, but human creativity and strategic thinking remain essential for the profession.
