What will you learn?

(Hotel- en Eventmanagement) In the AD Hotel and Event Management program, you learn all aspects of hospitality and event organization. You develop practical skills in reservation systems, front office management, housekeeping coordination, and food & beverage operations. Additionally, you gain extensive knowledge about event planning, from small business meetings to large festivals and conferences. The program combines hospitality management with creative event organization, where you learn to budget, select suppliers, and maintain client relationships. Unique to this AD is the strong focus on hands-on experience through an in-house student hotel or event bureau within the school. You work on real-life projects such as organizing corporate parties, weddings, or conferences for actual clients. Internships at hotels, event agencies, or conference centers are mandatory and form a large part of your second year. This program is perfect for people who like to take action, are hospitable, and get energy from creating unforgettable experiences for guests and visitors.

Required Education

For admission to the AD Hotel and Event Management program, you need at least an MBO-4 diploma, preferably in a related field such as Facility Management, Tourism & Recreation, or Commercial Economics. You can also enter directly with a HAVO diploma, where the Culture & Society (C&M) or Economics & Society (E&M) profile fits best. The C&M profile is especially valuable due to subjects like history and social studies that give you cultural insight, while E&M provides economic basic knowledge that is crucial for budget management and business operations. Specifically, the subjects Dutch (for communication with guests), English (international hotel chains and events), and mathematics (financial calculations) are important. There are usually no additional tests required, but motivation interviews occur to gauge your passion for hospitality. VWO students can also enroll, and for older candidates without the right preliminary education, there is often an entrance exam or 21+ regulation.

Career Prospects

After completion, you can immediately start working as assistant hotel manager, front office supervisor, banqueting coordinator, or junior event manager at hotels, conference centers, event agencies, or catering companies. Typical starting positions also include receptionist at boutique hotels, wedding planner assistant, or employee at festival organizations, with starting salaries between €2,200-€2,800 gross per month. The sector offers good advancement opportunities to positions such as hotel manager, senior event manager, or entrepreneur with your own event bureau, where salaries can rise to €3,500-€5,000 per month after several years of experience. Moreover, after your AD you can progress to the third year of a full HBO bachelor's program such as Hospitality Management or International Event Management, which further enhances your chances for management positions and international careers.
