What will you learn?

(ICT Service Management) In the AD ICT Service Management program, you learn how to professionally organize and manage ICT service delivery within organizations. You develop skills in ITIL processes, incident and problem management, change management, and service desk activities. Additionally, you learn to work with ticketing systems, monitoring tools, and reporting software. Subjects such as IT Service Management, Customer Relationship Management, Project Management, and Communication Skills are central. This AD distinguishes itself from a full HBO bachelor's degree by teaching you directly applicable skills with a strong focus on practical ICT management. You work on realistic cases where you might set up a service desk or design an incident management process. Internships at ICT companies, help desks, or IT departments of large organizations are mandatory components of the program. The education is perfect for practically-oriented students who enjoy being the link between technology and users, and who want to enter the job market quickly.

Required Education

For admission to AD ICT Service Management, you need an MBO level 4 diploma in an ICT field, or a HAVO or VWO diploma. For HAVO students, the Economics & Society (E&M) or Culture & Society (C&M) profiles are particularly suitable, as this education is strongly focused on the business side of ICT and customer service. The E&M profile provides a good foundation through subjects like business economics and mathematics, while communication skills from both profiles are valuable. Mathematics and Dutch at sufficient level are often required, as well as basic knowledge of English due to international ICT standards. Some universities of applied sciences use an intake or motivation interview to assess your affinity with ICT service delivery. Alternatively, you can be admitted with an MBO-3 diploma plus relevant work experience or through a 21+ test, where your lifelong learning experience is evaluated.

Career Prospects

After your AD ICT Service Management, you can immediately start working as a service desk employee, IT support specialist, incident manager, or junior ITIL consultant at ICT companies, shared service centers, or IT departments of organizations in all sectors. Typical starting salaries range between €2,200 and €2,800 gross per month, depending on the employer and region. With experience, you can grow into roles such as service manager, change manager, or IT operations manager. You can also use your AD as a stepping stone to a full HBO bachelor's in ICT or Business Administration, where you often receive exemptions and can graduate in 1.5 to 2 years.

Impact of AI on this program

AI is fundamentally transforming AD ICT Service Management. Programming shifts toward AI-assisted development with tools like GitHub Copilot. Students must learn to collaborate with AI, master prompt engineering, and focus on complex problem-solving that AI cannot automate. The demand for IT professionals remains high, but the work is changing dramatically.
