What will you learn?

(Sport) In the AD Sport program, you develop yourself into an all-round sports professional who can guide people in sports and physical activity. You learn how to set up training sessions for various target groups, from youth to seniors, and from recreational athletes to competitive athletes. Subjects such as sports physiology, movement science, training methodology, and sports psychology provide you with the scientific foundation. Additionally, you get practical subjects like various sports, coaching skills, and group dynamics. What makes this AD unique compared to a full HBO bachelor's degree is the intensive practice-oriented approach: you're quickly working in the gym or on the sports field with real clients. You complete internships at gyms, sports clubs, municipal sports organizations, or healthcare institutions where you gain direct experience in guiding athletes. This program is perfect for you if you're athletic, enjoy working with people, and want to motivate others to be active. You often have a background in sports yourself and want to apply this professionally.

Required Education

For admission to AD Sport, you need at least an MBO level 4 diploma in a sports-related field such as Sport and Movement, or a HAVO diploma. With HAVO, the Culture & Society (C&M) profile fits best because you work extensively with people and group processes, but Nature & Health (N&G) is also suitable due to the physiological aspects of sport. Important subjects are biology (for knowledge of the human body), Dutch (for communication with athletes), and preferably physical education. Many schools require a sports medical examination and expect you to be athletically active yourself. Some programs have a practical test where you must demonstrate athletic skills. As alternative admission, you can enter with an MBO level 3 diploma plus relevant work experience or with a 21+ test, provided you can demonstrate that you have the necessary capabilities.

Career Prospects

After your AD Sport, you can immediately work as a sports instructor at gyms and fitness centers, where starting salaries are around €1,800-€2,200 gross per month. You can also work as a trainer/coach at sports clubs, group fitness instructor, movement coach at healthcare institutions, or sports employee at municipalities. In healthcare, there are opportunities as a movement educator at physiotherapy practices or rehabilitation centers. Advancing to head trainer, sports coordinator, or owner of a gym is possible. For further career development, you can progress to the third year of an HBO bachelor's in Sport and Movement, which gives you access to management positions and education.

Impact of AI on this program

AI offers AD Sport data-driven training optimization, injury prevention, and performance analysis. Coaching, motivation, and the human sports experience remain central. Sports technology is a growing specialization.
